James
Lambert Singers
A Little About
Us

The James Lambert singers are a Wrexham
based choir consisting of 35 choristers, both male and female. They
were formed in 1969 by the distinguished musician, the late Emyr
James of Rhosllanerchrugog and local musician Don Lambert.
Emyr James retired as Musical Director of the choir in 1990, when
the present Director Mair Evans took over the leadership. Mair
Evans is an accomplished musician; she is a music teacher and has
been the accompanist to the award winning Froncysyllte Male Voice
Choir and a founder member of the James Lambert Singers.
Emyr James brought forth a new distinctive sound to choral singing
in Wales, breaking away from the more traditional form of music and
introduced a more relaxing and easy listening repertoire. Mair Evans has successfully continued with this style of music.
The Choir now has a very wide repertoire of music to listen to,
songs from the yesterday era. 1940’s through to the more well known
popular songs of today, as well as arrangements of Welsh folk music
also traditional and modern Christmas carols with accompaniment of
pre- recorded music.
The choir has had many successful singing
engagements in Germany and has taken part in a Gymanfa Ganu in
Columbus, Ohio, USA, twice visited Malta and have recently returned
from a singing engagement in Switzerland.
The Choir holds its rehearsals in Brymbo Sports & Social Club
Tuesday evening at 7.45 pm.
